Aaliyah’s Mother Release Statement on Back Up Singer Claims About R. Kelly & Her then Underaged Daughter

Aaliyah’s mom, Ms. Diane Haughton, has been quiet for years regarding the R. Kelly scandal and her late superstar daughter. But with Lifetime’s new documentary Surviving R. Kelly scheduled to premiere tonight the incidents have been revived. Recently in a newly released trailer for the show, a woman named Jovante Cunningham claim she saw R. Kelly having sex with the underaged Aaliyah on a tour bus during a tour at the time. The release of the trailer and the statements by the alleged back up singer was the straw that broke the camel’s back. The relatively reserved Ms. Diane Haughton released a statement that she has no idea who Jovante is and that she’s lying.

“The woman and so-called back up singer in the forthcoming ‘Surviving’ documentary that describes seeing, meeting or ever breathing the same air as my daughter Aaliyah is lying and is a liar.” she states. “My husband and I were always on tour with her and at interviews and every place she went throughout her entire career. Whoever this woman is, I have never seen her before anywhere on planet earth until now.”

Furthermore, Aaliyah’s mom has condemned everyone involved in the Surviving R. Kelly documentary.

“Shame on all those involved in this project who thought it kosher to drag Aaliyah’s name into a situation that has nothing to do with her today,” she writes. “Once again, this will not be tolerated.”

Looking back in retrospect there were many celebrities who declined to be a part of the documentary including Jay Z and other stars who knew both Aaliyah and R. Kelly. Therefore in respect to the late great Aaliyah and her family, Floss Magazine will no longer give coverage to the documentary. Many of our celebrity’s legacies and accomplishments are killed or belittled in documentaries and processes such as these. Furthermore, it would be inexcusable if we participated in such a thing that is contrary to our foundation.
