Today Canadian-Ghanaian artist AKUA has announced the details of her debut album
Them Spirits. Months after losing her father to cancer and releasing her debut EP One’s Company, AKUA was invited to tour with Solange. After years of performing on some of the world’s largest stages, time would reveal that she had not properly-tended to her grief. AKUA thus returned to songwriting and production as a way to process her journey, one marked by grief but defined by spiritual renewal; two themes which are intimately expressed on her debut album Them Spirits, dropping March 27th.

Last month AKUA shared a music video for “Offering” and today she shares the second single from Them Spirits titled “Heaven,” a song that tackles the conflicting feelings of denial and acceptance in the face of your own mortality.
Informed by the sonic vernacular of r&b, folk and soul, AKUA’s production takes you through a dreamlike sonic space; somewhere between heaven and earth.
