Brady Campaign Statement On National Gun Violence Awareness Day

Brady

Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement on National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

Today we all have a reason to wear orange. Maybe you’ve lost a loved one or best friend to a bullet. Maybe you know the devastating effects of gun violence firsthand. Or maybe you’re just like millions of other Americans who have had #ENOUGH of the gun violence that takes 90 lives every day in homes, schools, and on streets across this country.

As Americans don their best and brightest orange today, we should keep top of mind that gun violence is preventable. It can be stopped. And there is a role for all of us to play in that effort. Call your elected officials and demand sensible legislation. Talk with your family and friends about gun safety and risks. Organize your communities. This movement has swelled into an incredible force thanks to the millions of leaders, victim survivors and families, advocates, and supporters across the county who work to make their voices heard not just today, but every day.

I wear orange today for my brother Matt and for the hundreds of thousands of Americans affected by gun violence every year. We wear orange today because this country has finally reached a tipping point on gun violence. Based on common ground, the American public is coming together like never before to say #ENOUGH of the daily terror in homes and communities across the country that claims 33,000 lives every year.
