The city of Detroit is gearing up to to name a street after the late legendary Michael Jackson. Detroit is significant to Michael’s illustrious legendary career because it is the city that he and the Jackson 5 got their start via the iconic Motown Records. In a news conference last week, the city of Detroit, Michigan announced they would be renaming a portion of Randolph Street in the downtown theater district to Michael Jackson Avenue.
This street naming honors the 50th anniversary of The Jackson Five’s audition with Berry Gordy’s Motown Records in Detroit. Berry Gordy signed the group after their audition and together they recorded and released hit classics such as “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” “The Love You Save” and “I’ll Be There” to name a few. The street renaming ceremony is scheduled for June 15th. That weekend, Jackson 5 members Jackie, Jermaine, Tito, and Marlon are scheduled to headline the Detroit Music Weekend.
