Ed Sheeran Sued for $100 Million for Copying Marvin Gaye’s “Lets Get it On” – Details + Listen to Both Songs Here!

Ed Sheeran was sued yesterday, Jun 28th for $100 million for allegedly copying Marvin Gaye’s classic hit, Let’s Get It On. The court papers accuses the star of copying Marvin Gaye’s record for his hit song, Thinking Out Loud.

According to the court papers filed in Manhattan federal court, Ed Sheeran’s, Thinking Out Loud, copies the “melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bass line, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping” of Let’s Get It On. Sheeran’s label and publishing company, Sony/ATV Music Publishing and Atlantic record label were also named in the lawsuit. Ed Sheeran’s camp has reportedly denied any infringement in a related lawsuit filed by heirs of the late producer Ed Townsend, who co-wrote Let’s Get It On with Marvin Gaye.

As this case moves forward in court, it may be resolved in a very short period of time and Ed Sheeran may find himself signing over that check for $100 million or a negotiated figure close to that. The reason is simple, when you listen to both records the similarity is unmistakable and without a doubt.
