Ferguson Prosecutor in Michael Brown Case Fired

As the proverbial saying goes, ‘elections have consequences,’ and the prosecutor in the Michael Brown case just found out. The new St. Louis County prosecutor, Wesley Bell, just took office following the recent election and his first act of duty was to fire the prosecutor who presented evidence to the grand jury in the Michael Brown shooting case back in 2014.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Mr. Bell was sworn in on Tuesday, shortly after he sent a two-page letter to assistant prosecutor Kathi Alizadeh firing her. Her and former county prosecutor Robert McCulloch, were responsible for providing evidence to a grand jury in Ferguson following the shooting death of Michael Brown. There is another proverbial saying that, ‘a prosecutor can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich.’ Mrs. Kathi Alizadeh’s grand jury declined to indict the officer in the shooting named Darren Wilson. Following of which was days of protest in Ferguson for justice for Michael Brown.

Part of Mr. Bell’s campaign promises include making changes to the nature of the prosecutor’s office and reforming St. Louis’ cash bail system which disproportionately affect people of color.
