Jay Z Wants Iconix Lawsuit Paused Due to Lack of Diversity in Arbitrators – Details Here!

Jay Z is currently engaged in a lawsuit filed by Iconix Brand which could cause the mogul over $200 million. You would think that as rich as Jay Z is he would have no problem with getting a fair fight in such matters. Pause, because it appears money can buy you everything except diversity and potentially partiality in court and or during a lawsuit or arbitration. The case filed by Iconix Brand against Jay Z, claims that they paid $204 Million for the Roc Nation logo’s merchandising rights. But according to documents filed, they’re suing Jay Z for continuing to use the logo which appeared on Major League Baseball gear without their permission.

Jay Z, his attorneys and the complainant, Iconix agreed to have the case heard by an arbitrator. The court gave them until November 30 to find an arbitrator who would hear the case and settle the matter for both parties. The problem is according to Jay’s lawyer’s, Alex Spiro of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, they fear he may not get a fair hearing. It turns out that out of 200 arbitrator selected as part of their list to select from, none are African-American. Therefore, they have issued a request for a restraining order which would pause the proceedings until they can find more diverse arbitrators which they fell would assure the star a fair hearing in the case.
