12 Years A Slave by Solomon Northup

Congraulation to John Ridley for Best adapted screen play for 12 Years a Slave.

The film is based on the 1853 memoir of Solomon Northup, a book that fell into obscurity for nearly a century after its initial print run. It was only when the film director Steven McQueen Life Partner, Bianca Stigter stumbled across the book on the internet that this dream began.

McQueen convinced Ridley to work on the project with out no budget and after four years it came to life. After writing seven novels, three graphic novels and a stage play, he became only the second black person to win an Oscar in the writing category, after Geoffrey Fletcher for “Precious.”JohnRidley JohnRidleyonset john-ridley-86th-oscars-nominees-luncheon-01 became only the second black person to win an Oscar in the writing category, after Geoffrey Fletcher for “Precious.”
