Jordan Peele Becomes First Black Writer to Win an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay

The cat is officially out the bag on this one. Blacks have been achieving greatness in America probably from since the end of slavery. Lets be honest about it. Blacks have made tremendous amounts of contributions not only to America but to the world and its culture and yet many of their contributions go unknown. Or they are not properly credited for their accomplishments. But time is the equalizer to all things and social media has connected the world making it hard to keep people’s accomplishments suppressed from the masses.

Fast forward to the 2018 Oscars held and March 4th and big CONGRATULATIONS are in order to Jordan Peele who made history at the awards by becoming the first black writer to be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay Writer categories for the film Get Out. He made additional history by becoming the first Black Writer to win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. This is truly a mile stone and a huge step forward for the Oscars.

During his acceptance speech Jordan Peele said “This means so much to me, I stopped writing this movie about 20 times because I thought it was impossible. I thought it wasn’t going to work. I thought no one would ever make this movie. But I kept coming back to it, because I knew if someone let me make this movie, that people would hear it and people would see it.”

He continued, “I want to dedicate this to all the people who raised my voice and let me make this movie. To the cast and crew, I love you, thank you so much. My wife, who supported me through this whole process. My mother, who taught me to love even in the face of hate. And to everybody who went and saw this movie. Everybody who bought a ticket, who told somebody to buy a ticket, thank you. I love you for shouting out at the theater, for shouting out at the screen.”
