Kanye West latest body of work, Ye, is the #1 album on the Billboard 200 charts with 208,000 units sold in its first week. Many around Kanye including folks at Def Jam were nervous that his recent political views would affect the sales of his new album when it dropped. But fans show that they have the ability of separating politics and music to give Ye the fifth largest album debut this year.
The first week success of Ye makes the album Kanye West’s 8th consecutive #1 albums on the Billboard charts. Kanye is now tied with Eminem and The Beatles for achieving 8 consecutive #1 albums on the chart. With Ye’s #1 standing, Kanye has also tied Eminem for the second highest amount of number 1 hip-hop albums, for which Jay Z holds the #1 spot with 14.
