Oklahoma City star Kevin Durant was the overwhelming choice for the NBA’s 2013-14 Most Valuable Player award. All but six of the 125 voters gave Durant, who led the league in scoring for the fourth time in five seasons, their first-place vote.
On Tuesday, the 25-year-old Durant accepted the award with a speech for the ages, one filled with humility, class and grace. In the closing moments of the 25-minute speech, as he held back his own tears, Durant paid special tribute to his mother-Wanda Pratt, a single mother of two boys, as she sat in the audience.
You made us believe, he said to her. Kept us off the street. Put clothes on our backs, food on the table. When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate. You sacrificed for us. You’re the real MVP.
We at Floss like to congratulate Kevin Durant on a most deserving award..
