NY Senator Marty Golden Names Today John Travolta Day in Brooklyn – Ceremony Details Here!

New York State Senator Marty Golden ( R-C-I Brooklyn) will honor the legendary actor John Travolta in a ceremony on today, June 12, 2018 at 1:00pm at Lenny’s Pizza 1969 86th Street in Brooklyn.

Travolta made Lenny’s Pizza famous in the Saturday Night Fever blockbuster (1977) in which he played Tony Manero and ordered two slices of pizza on top of each other. He ate it as he walked down the streets of Brooklyn. That iconic scene is so popular even today as people still order a double decker slice. Lenny’s has become a tourist destination.

“Travolta changed the culture of Brooklyn and America forever in both fashion and music. The movie Saturday Night Fever brought millions of Americans to the dance floor to the rhythm of disco” said Senator Golden. John Travolta also starred in the iconic television program “Welcome Back Kotter” which portrayed a Brooklyn High School.”

At the ceremony, Lenny’s Pizza will name a slice in his honor. NYPD will be closing the streets for the ceremony and radio personality, Joe Causi, will be serving at the events emcee. The event will be hosted by Will DeMeo who is co-starring in “Gotti.”

Devoted fan and Italian business mogul Gianluca Mech, who last year spent over $200,000 to recreate the famed “2001” disco for the 40th Anniversary of the film will be in attendance. Mech self-funded the project for a local Bay Ridge, Brooklyn Brooklyn.

Senator Golden added “the community is excited for John’s return to Brooklyn. Everywhere I go I am asked about the ceremony. We feel we are bringing back a little history to the streets he once made famous.”
