The Vines at France’s Domaine de Bordeneuve Come Out Unscathed After Hailstorms – Details Here!

The rain, and hailstorms in parts of France, results in severe weather that has been unprecedented so far this year with the heaviest rainfalls recorded since 1952! But now that the barometer would appear to be stabilizing, it is time to take stock of the vines, following such inclement weather.

About the storms and it’s affect on the vines, Bordeneuve Châteaux & Collections states, “Contrary to many of our colleagues in the Gers and neighbouring regions, to whom we lend our complete support, I am happy to inform you that the vines at Domaine de Bordeneuve have come out unscathed from the hailstorms.”

“It is now that we are undertaking trellising, which supports the vegetation, that we can really examine the state of the vines. Firstly, the budding (i.e. the fruit potential), is exceptional at this stage; also the general well-being of the vines is excellent.”

Bordeneuve Châteaux & Collections, concludes “However, the saturated soils present a danger to the vines in this period, as the excess of water asphyxiates the plant, which can then die. This is why it was imperative for the vineyard, that the rains stop and the soils dry. Given the budding and finally stable summer weather, the perspectives for the 2018 vintage are starting to take shape.”
