Urban fashion legend Dapper Dan who is best known for his iconic clothing store which was located on 125th street in Harlem during the 1980s and early 1990’s, has a movie about his experience coming soon. During that time period Dapper Dan tailored custom made cloths for everyone from the biggest drug dealers in New York, to Mike Tyson to the biggest names in hip hop.
The majority of the cloths Dapper Dan created however, included materials that had logos of companies such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and others on them. These brands collectively sued him in the 90’s and forced him out of business. Most recently and Ironically, Gucci signed a partnership agreement with Dapper Dan and he’s opened a new store in Harlem which continues his design legacy.
The collimation of his experiences and the things he may have seen during that time period and dealing with those various personalities makes for a very interesting story. And, we’ll all have the ability to see it all when Dapper Dan’s biopic which is executive produced by him and his son Jelani Day when it hits theaters or TV.
