Video: Dame Dash says Jay-Z & R. Kelly’s “Best of Both Worlds” Collab Helped End Roc-A-Fella Records

Dame Dash who dated Aaliyah up until her unfortunate death and who also co-founded Roc-a-Fella records along with Jay-Z spoke of the difficulties of watching the Surviving R. Kelly documentary. The music mogul in a recent interview with Hip-Hop Motivation spoke about his memories of Aaliyah, and the emotional trauma she was experiencing over her past relationship with R. Kelly. Dame also spoke of his strong opposition to Jay-Z doing the Best of Both Worlds collaborative album with R. Kelly shortly after Aaliyah’s untimely death in 2001.

In the interview, Dame Dash states, “If you remember The Best of Both Worlds, you don’t see my name on that.I never wanted no part of that.”

Dame’s opposition to the collaborative Best of Both Worlds album he says extended to Jay-Z whom he reveals was aware of R. Kelly’s alleged abuse of Aaliyah. At that point he felt, “Roc-a-Fella was defunct. It was over.”

“I know I’m not f*ckin’ with that […] I knew, morally, we weren’t the same,” Dame Dash said. “So, to me, Roc-a-Fella was defunct. It was over. I couldn’t fuck with it. It was something that, to me—I don’t wanna say ‘unforgivable,’ but I couldn’t understand it.”

Dame Dash states that he refused all credits on the album but he did take the profits that were due to him and donated them to the breast cancer organization Aaliyah supported.
