Zendaya Coleman to Play Aaliyah in Princess of R&B

17 year old Disney star Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, known simply as Zendaya, is an American teen actress, singer and dancer has been signed to play the late songstress Aaliyah in the upcoming Lifetime biopic ‘Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.’

Based on Christopher John Farley’s ‘Aaliyah: More Than A Woman,’ Lifetime’s ‘Aaliyah: Princess of R&B’ will chronicle the stars career from age 10 on ‘Star Search,’ to her tragic plane crash at age 22.

Despite the network’s gesture, Aaliyah’s family is reportedly upset about the film being made.

And  despite her untimely passing that ended up cutting her rise to super stardom short, we have a great appreciation for the legacy she has left behind.  

 Aaliyah Dana Haughton,  was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Detroit, Michigan At the age of 10, she appeared on the television show Star Search performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight.  At age 12, Aaliyah signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson’s Blackground Records. Hankerson introduced her to R.Kelly, who became her mentor, as well as lead songwriter and producer of her debut album, Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number. The album sold three million copies in the United States and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
