Jennifer Hudson is gearing up to play Aretha Franklin in an upcoming biopic about the legend’s life. Saturday night at his pre-Grammy party, Clive Davis let the cat out the bag when he made the announcement about the upcoming film. Clive said “When the biopic of the great Aretha Franklin is filmed next year, the artist anointed by Aretha herself to play her is the next performer. Aretha personally told me that last week.”

The Aretha Franklin biopic has reportedly been in development at MGM and Scott Bernstein (Straight Outta Compton) has been tapped to producer it along with music producer Harvey Mason, Jr.. MGM is reportedly currently assessing directors and screenwriter for the film and its release date is not yet set.
