Anthony Ramos, who originated the critically-acclaimed roles of ‘John Laurens’ and ‘Philip Hamilton’ in the TONY and GRAMMY Award-winning Broadway musical Hamilton, is releasing his debut music as a solo artist with his upcoming project, the Freedom EP.

Ramos just released the songs “Freedom” and “Common Ground” – timed to the first anniversary of the Presidential election. The songs are part of his forthcoming EP of original music written and performed by the GRAMMY Award-winner. The Freedom EP is a collection of music that was inspired by the reaction to the 2016 presidential election and current climate in the world today. The full Freedom EP will be released on January 20th – one year after the Inauguration.

“Freedom is a series of letters, through music, to the country I love so much,” says the Brooklyn native, Ramos. “A realization that translated itself into soulful stadium-ready anthems that take you on the journey of what the last year has been for me. A year filled with political and social hardship and confusion, which has birthed a movement of overwhelming passion in so many. Passion for change, education, truth and love.”

You can listen to “Freedom” and “Common Ground” on Anthony’s Soundcloud and Spotify profiles.

Ramos conceived the project at Broken Luxury Studios in New York with his music partner Will Wells, who most recently contributed to Logic’s #1 Billboard album. Together, they created a set of thought-provoking songs that relate to the state of the world we live in today.

On the reflective title track “Freedom,” he questions what we have all been taught freedom is, and if it matches the reality we are living in today. On the hopeful “Common Ground,” he writes a confession of brokenness in a relationship and asks for full transparency in order to help get back to the love that was once there.

Ramos will be performing music from Freedom at a special showcase on Saturday, January 13 at Rough Trade in NYC (64 North 9th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11249). Here is a link to tickets.

As an actor, upcoming, Anthony will star in the series She’s Gotta Have It created by Spike Lee, based on his 1986 film of the same name. Anthony stars as ‘Mars Blackmon,’ originally played by Spike Lee. Here is the trailer for the show. All 10 episodes were directed by Lee and will premiere on November 23 on Netflix. Anthony also co-wrote and performs three songs included in the series.

Ramos has two major feature films coming up, including A Star Is Born, directed by Bradley Cooper and staring Lady Gaga to be released May 18, 2018 by Warner Bros. Pictures and Godzilla: King of the Monsters to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on March 22, 2019. He also recurs in the new Will & Grace on NBC. Ramos also stars in the lead role in Ed Burns’ upcoming independent film Summertime and previously appeared in the independent films White Girl and Patti Cake$.
