Jay- Z’s “ The Blue Print” to be inducted into the National Recording Registry.
Jay-Z’s sixth studio album The Blue Print, released in 2001, will officially be included into the National Recording Registry. The Library of Congress announced the collection of works on March 20th, with the list consisting of several musical pieces that made a stamp on music throughout the years as well as other historical recordings. This brings great honor to Jay-Z who is at the forefront of hip-hop music. Jay Z is among 24 other artists included in the National Recording Registry.
The National Recording Registry selects 25 recordings annually, of which are all historically and culturally apart of The United States. Since 2002 over 500 recordings have been included into the list, with Martin Luther King Jr.’s “ I Have A Dream speech” being one of the first added to the list. This shows the importance of being included in the registry. Along with Jay-Z, other recordings belong to Cyndi Lauper, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Neil Diamond, Robert F. Kennedy, and Nina Simone are official additions to the list.
The Blue Print was undeniably a legendary album, being considered as one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all times and is critically acclaimed. Since the 2001 release, he has become one of the biggest names in hip-hop, and his winnings are not shy of the fact. With 22 Grammy awards and over 100 million records sold worldwide, his status is evident. Along with being honored in the Song Writer Hall of Fame, Jay-Z’s addition in The Recording Registry are two moments in his career that he rightfully earned.
