In an interview with ROLLING OUT Magazine, Actress Keke Palmer talks about landing the role of her dreams in “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.”
“It was a dream come true,” she says. “I never would’ve imagined that I would be doing something like that. Being a kid growing up and loving TLC and then doing the movie and playing my favorite member? It was overwhelming.”
Palmer admits to developing a little anxiety after the intense fan reaction to the casting, but it only gave her that much more motivation to nail her role as “Chilli.” “It is a little bit harder because you want to get it right,” she explains. “But at the end of the day, [the fans] don’t know what Chilli’s life was like at home. They only knew her through interviews and her performances. But they didn’t know how she was with her mom, or how she was with her sister or how she was at home.”
Palmer also opens up about her transition from child star into adulthood. “When people think of me initially, they remember me as Akeelah. Sometimes it can be frustrating to be remembered at an age that you’ve outgrown. But at the same time, it’s never frustrated me to the point where I wanted to lash out. I just take it one step at a time. I’ve been patient in letting other people adapt to me and my growth.”
Palmer has made a lovely transition into adulthood and her firm belief in putting her career first has definitely paid off. She’s currently filming the drama “Brotherly Love,” and also recording her upcoming second album. When talking about the feeling she gets when acting and singing, Palmer says, “It’s like love itself. It’s an expression of my heart and that’s how I feel when I do it. I know that God put me on earth to do that.”
