Meet Lay Bankz Philly’s 19-year-old viral sensation. It’s no secret that Philly and Jersey club music has grown in popularity in recent years, taking the industry and social media timelines by storm with snappy bangers that get your hips shaking. While many of the young risers of the club scene approach uptempo beats with sharpshooting bars and elements of drill culture, 19-year-old singer/songwriter, rapper, and dancer Lay Bankz is changing ideas about what is possible for the genre with her diverse vocal range.
Emerging onto the scene with her mastery of regional dance moves like Philly’s “blick”, Lay Bankz grew a cult-like social media following as a dancer. She revealed her musical talents after developing a steady following, dropping high-paced, R&B-infused anthems like the viral hit “Left Cheek (Doo Doo Blick)” (450k+ creations) and the catchy “Throw Dat.” Lay has since received co-signs from Ciara – who recruited her for the dance mix of her recent single, “Da Girls” – along with New Jersey buzzer Bandmanrill, who tapped her for their “PIANO” collaboration late last year. The momentum hasn’t stopped – she recently made her television debut on Wild ‘N Out and was mentioned as a Philly artist on the rise in Complex’s list of The Best Rap Cities Right Now.
With an EP on the horizon and plenty of milestones to come, Lay Bankz is well on her way to being the face of Philly’s club scene.
