Sasheer Zamata makes her debut tonight on Saturday Night Live, the first black female cast member since Maya Rudolph left in 2007.  Her hiring came after Kenan Thompson told TV Guide he no longer play roles in drag and suggested that fellow cast member Jay Pharaoh could take on that role to which Pharaoh said, the show needed to do what it’s been promising for years, hire a black woman.

Sasheer Zamata makes her debut tonight on Saturday Night Live, the first black female cast member since Maya Rudolph left in 2007.  Her hiring came after Kenan Thompson told TV Guide he no longer play roles in drag and suggested that fellow cast member Jay Pharaoh could take on that role to which Pharaoh said, the show needed to do what it’s been promising for years, hire a black woman.
And after several secret auditions in which no one was hired. Steps in Zamata, who will be the fifth African American Female in SNL 39 year history.
Two other female African-American writers were added to the staff as well, comedians LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones.
Sasheer Zamata is an actress, writer, and comedian living in NYC. After graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Drama, she moved to New York in 2009 and began performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.
