Hip Hop artist XXXTentacion, whose real name is Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, died from gun shot wounds early this evening. The star was shopping for a motorcycle and after leaving the dealership in South Florida an armed man opened fire on him as he was getting into his car.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Department initially took to social media to report the incident shortly after they arrived at the scene. At that time the rapper’s identity was unconfirmed. XXXTentacion was rushed to the hospital shortly after where he was pronounced dead at 5:40 p.m. Eastern time. The Broward Sheriff’s Department is reportedly questioning witnesses and reviewing surveillance cameras in the area for clues as to who the shooter is and the circumstances surrounding the incident. So far it doesn’t look like a robbery but that too is unclear. We’ll keep you posted as this story develops.

UPDATE TO THE STORY – 07:39 Eastern Time.

We’re getting numerous reports about the death of XXXTentacion including that it may have been a drive by shooting as officials have identified a potential getaway car.
