On Friday, May 27, Texas Congressman Gene Green will host a Health & Wellness Fair at the Denver Harbor Multi-Service Center, beginning at 10 A.M. with remarks at 10:30 A.M.
During the event, healthcare professionals will screen and/or test attendees for: blood glucose, blood pressure, dental, vision, cholesterol, mammograms, lead prevention, chronic kidney disease, and body mass index (BMI). Additionally, 18-40 year old Hispanic women will have the opportunity to participate in a six-month diabetes intervention program. All services will be free to participants.
Currently, one in 12 adult Texans — roughly 2 million people — have been diagnosed with diabetes; another half million are believed to be undiagnosed. That number is likely to grow to nearly 8 million by 2040, according to Responding to the Epidemic: Strategies for Improving Diabetes Care In Texas, http://bit.ly/1TYyNXq.
