Many TV and streaming networks used the platform of the 2019 Essence Music Festival to premiere and promote their upcoming shows for the fall. BET, Netflix, and Hulu each had creative ways to introduce their shows and cast members to the media and the over 500,000 attendees of the three day festival.
Here are a sample of the shows to look out for….
First Wives Club on BET Streaming – Starring Jill Scott, Michelle Buteau, and Ryan Michelle Bathe, The First Wives Club is the first major show to debut on the new BET streaming service. The remake directed by Tracy Oliver from the “Girl’s Trip” movie follows three close friends as they rebound from marital breakup with a little bit of revenge
FX Network Snowfall
FX Networks hosted the New Orleans advance screening of the highly anticipated drama series “Snowfall” at The Joy Theater. Guest arrived full of energy as they rolled into the theater to the Hot 8 Brass Band pumped to see the new premiere episode of Season 3.
Lead actor Damson Idris who plays budding kingpin Franklin, said that it is important for the show to go on to continue the legacy of the show’s creator John Singleton who passed away earlier this year.
Netflix’s Family Reunion
Created by producer Meg Deloatch, who brought us other Black family classics like Family Matters and One on One, Family Reunion Loretta Devine, Tia Mowry-Hardrict, and Richard Roundtree as a multi generational family as they learn to live under one roof as some members relocate from Seattle to Georgia.
Hulu’s Wu-tang: An American Saga
The streaming service Hulu is coming out with a scripted 10 part docu-series “Wu-tang An American Saga this fall. Produced by Brian Grazer from Empire and Wu-tang’s own RZA, the series track the origin of the Clan in Staten Island all the way into becoming one of the most influential groups in Rap’s history.
